Job Purpose/Scope:
• To contribute effectively to the successful learning experiences of students in the College through effective teaching that meets College standards and results in high levels of student retention and achievement.
• To offer students a high quality learning experience to achieve the goal or qualification for which they are studying.
• To contribute to the personal development of the students.
• To contribute to the organisational requirements of the College.
• To carry out all duties and responsibilities with due regard to the College’s Policies and Guidelines and Code of Ethics.
• To co-operate with the College in order to ensure his/her own health and safety and that of students and colleagues.
• To be responsible for delivering other teaching forms such as workshops, seminars, training and review sessions.
• To carry out quality improvements, the achievement of targets and the development of teaching and learning activities that enhance the student experience.
• To take part in the development and dissemination of good teaching practice.
Key Responsibilities:
Main Teaching Duties:
• Teaching on a range of programmes as directed from absolute beginner level upwards.
• Carrying out tutorial, personal development activities, team building, vocational learning, performance monitoring and management of a range of students.
• Contributing effectively to the team’s collective responsibility for:
o regular meetings
o planning, designing and updating the programme and its materials and activities
o delivering the programme
o course and student records and associated administration
o the assessment of students
o the moderation, standardization and verification of assessments as required
o monitoring student progress
o evaluation of the programme
o identifying personal and professional development needs
o maintaining and safe keeping safe teaching areas and equipment.
Other teaching duties
• Assessing and organising access to learning support services for all students.
• Contributing to the College’s key aim of preparing students for employment.
• Contributing to the College extra-curricular activities.
Curriculum Development & Quality Improvement
• Identifying, extending and disseminating good professional practice in content, selection and presentation and in teaching, planning and delivery.
• Developing course materials, schemes of work, lesson plans etc. and make these available through the colleges’ shared information system.
• Identifying and evaluating teaching and learning styles and approaches with particular emphasis on retention, achievement and result-based assessments.
• Improving the effectiveness of curriculum delivery and the learning experience for class groups and individual students
• Contributing, supporting and enhancing the effectiveness of the course review process, including classroom observations.
Resources
• Identifying and co-ordinating quality improvements in teaching and learning resources and facilities through course team and review processes
• Advising on and facilitating the deployment and quality of work with other teachers and staff members.
Professional & Academic Administration
• Supporting the effective operation of all professional administrative processes.
• Liaising with College support staff and participating in cross-College and Cross-Colleges’ initiatives
• Contributing to the College marketing and recruitment activity where necessary
Communication & Staff Development
• Identifying and disseminating good practices and supporting staff in delivering the curriculum
• Contributing to the effective design and delivery of the Colleges’ marketing plan
• Generate and disseminate good practice
• Staff development - evaluating and anticipating development needs in relation to the current and potential vocational and curriculum delivery requirements
Corporate Commitment
• Complying and supporting compliance with all corporate policies and procedures
• Responding to key priorities, particularly health, safety and welfare, and inclusion and equality of opportunity
• Representing the College and the specialist team in academic and professional developments
• Promoting College interests on all appropriate occasions
